Port Blair, September 29: Instances have occurred when the vehicle ferries catering between Chatham to Bambooflat and vice versa goes hardly with any passengers and vehicles; even though the rules imposed on carrying only two four-wheelers at a time is not put aside by the crew members of Vehicle Ferries, letting the residents of the Bambooflat region suffer.
An NGO based in Andaman, ‘Living on the Edge’ had although raised this matter via twitter to the District Commissioner South Andaman yesterday but no move for the reassessment in this regard has been made yet.
“We don’t demand to allow the four-wheelers during the time of rush, in the Vehicle Ferry. We only request to instruct the Vehicle Ferry crew to take-in more four-wheelers when the ferry goes almost empty,” said the President, LOTE, Mr. Abhay Kumar.
According to Mr. Kumar, this is an utter wastage of government’s money, and hence, a thought must be given in this regard. Just because of this restrictions, many residents who use the car, forced to take the road route to Port Blair when they have an emergency. Mr. Kumar added.
Andaman Sheekha tried to connect with the DC South Andaman, unfortunately, his number was not in reachable.
