
Port Blair, June 22: In pursuit of providing maximum benefit to maximum number of people, the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) has taken a number of initiatives for the welfare of its citizens, with the active participation of Elected Representatives. One such initiative taken up by PBMC pertains to development of community assets. To facilitate the poorest of the poor, the Council had taken up the daunting task to renovate/ revamp/ redesign nine Community Halls in various Wards. In this regard, the Administration has allotted a fund to the tune of Rs
7.15 Crores, to take up the renovation and revamping of these nine Community Hall.
Accordingly, the works pertaining to Community Hall near Island Bakery, Community Hall at Dairy Farm, Community Hall at Shadipur, Community Hall at Brookshabad and Community Hall at Pahargaon are nearing completion.
The tender for renovating/ revamping/redesigning of Community Hall at Haddo and Community Hall at AnarkalI have been awarded and the work will start soon. The 1st phase work of Khaitana Kalyana Mandapam has been completed and 2nd phase work has been awarded while the tender for renovation of Community Hall at Delanipur is under process.
Informing about the progress of the works, the Secretary, PBMC informed that the progress of the work has been delayed due to lockdown imposed in connection with spread of COVID -19. However, the work pertaining to Community Halls near Island Bakery, Dairy Farm, Shadipur, Brookshabad & Pahargaon are expected to be completed by July, 2020, he said.
Further, the construction of Community Hall at Chakkargaon has been completed and the renovation of Community Hall at South Point is also expected to be completed by July 2020. With the completion of the renovation works of each community hall, around 4000 to 4500 population will be benefitted, a press release issue by Secreary, PBMC added.
