Port Blair, June 10: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which had defeated COVID19 twice in recent past and became Corona Free, have now reported fresh two cases of COVID19 positive.
This time also infected people reached Port Blair via flight from Mainland India.
Present two COVID19 patients reached Port Blair on 7 June, 2020 from Chennai and Delhi (via Kolkata).
The Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Chetan Sanghi announced about these two cases in his tweet messages, yesterday late night and today.
Earlier after first wave of Corona infection Andaman was declared COVID19 free on April 16, 2020 but since April 17, 2020 the second wave of corona infection was reported in Andaman, infecting total 33 people.
All these 33 COVID19 positive cases were later tested negative and the last patient was tested negative on May 07, 2020.
Among present two cases, Case Number 34 is a male, and Case Number 35 is a female.
The female COVID19 patient is wife of a Defence person and has been admitted in Naval Hospital, INHS Dhanwantri while the male patient, a resident of Prothrapur, has been admitted in G B Pant Hospital.
Sources in Andaman’s Health Department said that a colony in Prothrapur, a residential area of case number 34, has been declared as containment area while the area where case number 35 lives, a section of Haddo area, has also been cordoned off.
The Case number 35 was already in quarantine inside Defence area of Andaman after her arrival while Case number 34 was in self observation.
Meanwhile, the contact tracing team has taken samples of 28 people, who probably came in contact of these two patients, out of which 18 are civilians and 10 are Defence personals. The 18 civilian people have already been sent to quarantine facilities while 10 defence personnel will be quarantined by Defence Forces, sources said.
