Port Blair, Sept 18: A major fire was averted in Port Blair city today. According to reports the fire was reported at 3.15 PM from Babuline area of Port Blair and within three minutes i.e 3.18 Fire Tenders of A & N Fire Services reached the spot.
As per details available here five Fire Tenders from Head Quarter, one from Chatham, one from Marine, One from Haddo and One from Garacharma reached the spot in no time to douse the fire. Besides this one Ambulance of Fire Brigade was also rushed to the spot. Staffs of PS Aberdeen and A & N Traffic unit also responded promptly.
According to eyewitness the fire was reported from the first floor of a wooden building situated between KK Lodge and GCM press.
As per fire brigade sources within 40 mints (i.e by 3.52 pm) the fire was brought under control and the entire fire fighting operation ended at 4.15 pm.
Only because of the swift action of the A & N Fire Service the fire could be tamed well before any major disaster. A major fire in 2006-2007 had devastated entire Babuline area of Port Blair city. Luckily history didn’t repeat itself today.
Though no civilian was injured in this incident but three Fire Brigade Jawans suffered minor burn injuries while fighting fire.
The Station Officer of Aberdeen Fire Station was among the first to reach the spot and later the Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Aynesh Roy also reached to the spot to oversee the entire operation.
“The fire has been brought under total control. The cause of the fire accident is still not known,” the CFO told Andaman Sheekha.
Acting promptly the A & N Traffic Police blocked all the roads closed to the Babulane for the easy movement of Fire Tenders and diverted traffic through other routes.
