Port Blair, Sept 20: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC recently met with the Chief Secretary Mr. Anand Prakash along a delegate of PRI members and Senior Veterinary Officers and briefed him that these Sr Veterinary Officers have rendered their sincere services in the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, AN Administration for 13 to 17 years are still working on Ad-hoc basis.
Mr. Sharma has also pleaded for these officers to the Chief Secretary that during the time of Tsunami all these doctors have worked in inter islands under tremendous mental pressure but did not leave their place of postings. Out of which, two have also been awarded Lt Governor’s Commendation certificate for their utmost dedication and exemplary courage and devotion. All these 06(six) Senior Veterinary Officers possess the required educational qualifications as prescribed in the Recruitment Rules for the post and were appointed as direct recruit on selection by a duly constituted selection committee headed by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration against the advertised regular vacancies of the Senior Veterinary Officers.
Apparently, all of them fulfilled the age criteria at the time of their entry into service. Due to prolonged engagement on Ad hoc basis most of these Veterinary Officers have crossed the maximum age limits prescribed for the post and are still waiting for regularisation of service.
Mr. Sharma has also stated that in the past, in the same department, regularization of the Ad hoc appointments of some doctors, during 1982-83 were considered. During the year 1998, eighteen posts of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons were also regularised through UPSC, all the candidates were serving on Ad-hoc basis and four of them were given age relaxation to appear UPSC and the AN Administration considered their case sympathetically and regularized their services. Briefing the case history of these 6 officers, Mr. Sharma has requested to the Chief Secretary to consider regularisation of Ad hoc appointment of these 06(six) Senior Veterinary Officers in consultation with UPSC, if necessitated by seeking one time relaxation as regard to upper age limit prescribed for direct recruitment to the post. The Chief Secretary has assured to look into the matter.
