Port Blair, March 27: Several reports are pouring in from different parts of the Islands that people who were asked to remain in quarantine, roamed freely for several days and in several parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Not only the general public but few public representatives who were asked to remain in quarantine also went out in public and some of them met senior officials too.
In one such case, at Phongy Kyaun area two people who came from the mainland, India and introduced themselves as passengers coming from Katchal to the landlord following which the landlord allowed his tenant to allow them to stay in the house but according to the landlord, the tenant not only gave a wrong travel history but also, the people who were asked to stay in quarantine, roamed freely for all these days, in Port Blair city.
Only today when officials of District Commissioner Office reached the house and pasted a sticker of quarantine infront of the house, the landlord realized that these people have come from Mainland, India.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over the phone, the landlord said that he has made an official complaint to the Police but still no action has been taken and the landlord was told that until and unless police don’t receive any confirmation from the DC office to take action, police cannot take action.
“Authorities should have pasted quarantine sticker in my house on the same day, then I would have taken proper precautions,” the landlord said on condition of anonymity.
Similarly, a boy coming from the mainland, India and who traveled in the same flight in which the first positive case was found and was asked to remain in the house along with his parents. But his father didn’t follow the direction and according to complainants, his father went on regular duty which put many at risk, when the matter was raised to the concerned departments, it was found no one is ready to listen to the complain.
Many state all over India had started putting a quarantine stamp on the people who were asked to remain in quarantine from the beginning days but in Andaman, it started very very late, not only this, the trend of putting a sticker in front of the house was also started very late.
Lack of planning, lack of proper supervision and lack of check led to this crisis and now many who traveled on the same flight with the first positive case, are reportedly roaming freely in the city which has now put many people at risk.
The administration needs to fix some responsibility on some officials for this lack of planning and irresponsibility for which now many will have to pay.
