Port Blair, Feb 02: World Wetland is celebrated world wide since 1997, to mark the importance of Wetland in our eco system. On the eve of the World Wetland Day, Andaman Avians Club organised a two day session for 30 students of MGIS, Port Blair. On Day 1, members of the club had an interactive talk with the students where the Types, Importance, Threats and Conservation of Wetlands in the Islands were highlighted. On Day 2, the same set of students were taken to Sippighat Wetland to highlight them about the conservation of the wetland, the practical challenges today’s authorities face to protect this wetlands followed by a bird watching session where students were briefed about the basic Bird Identification techniques. During the field visit session students were delighted to watch the beautiful wetland birds through the spotter and few stories of their long journey we’re shared to encourage students about the conservation of birds and wetlands.
