Port Blair, Feb 02: Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU), Port Blair organised an Orientation Training Course (OTC) on “Health and Nutrition” in Anganwadi Kendra Mannarghat Basti, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project Ferrargunj, South Andaman, recently. About 08 Anganwadi workers and 22 Self Help Group members of the area were enrolled in the course.
During the training, the participants were sensitized about various aspects of health and nutrition like Low birth weight, Nutrition requirements of adolescent girls, pregnant women & lactating mothers, significance of early initiation of breast feeding, exclusive breast feeding for 6 months and continuing breast feeding to infants for 2 years.
Mr. Anil Kumar Dhiman, Demonstration officer of CFNEU informed the participants about causes, consequences, symptoms & prevention of Anaemia, Vitamin A deficiency, Iodine Deficiency Disorder and child malnutrition. The importance of adequate nourishment to infants and children was also highlighted in the training. Preparation of low cost nutritive food items was also demonstrated on the occasion. CFNEU operates under Food and Nutrition Board of Ministry of Woman and Child Development.
