Port Blair, Jan 20: Some villagers of Brichgunj and Austinabad area have alleged that the forest in Brichgunj and Austinabad area has become a den for Cockfight, Gambling, Crown and Anchor Games (Jandi Munda or Gudgudiya), Weeds and bootlegging, every Sunday.
In such events, organized most secretly on almost every Sunday, more than 100 people gather in the deep forest in the morning hours, at around 05:00 AM and such Gambling continues till 08:00 AM.
For more entertainment of the people, sale of liquor and ganja is also ensured by the organizers it is learnt.
Andaman Sheekha has learnt that people from many parts of South Andaman District, reach the forest area to play this illegal games in which many are government servants and some are also from disciplined forces.
The illegal games are on since last one year in the forest and Lakhs of rupees are kept on the board, every Sunday.
As per Andaman Sheekha’s investigation, the place is just a walk of around 4kms opposite to Mariyamma Temple and it also has another way from Birchgunj area. As per the investigation, a good number of the people approach through the Austinabad area. Andaman Sheekha has exclusive photos of one such event which proves that such gambling den actually exists.
Andaman Sheekha has also learnt that few sources of Police has also informed the matter to the various units of Police and once or twice when the police team tried to conduct a raid in the place, the kingpins get prior information from their sources and they vanish in thin air.
Public of nearby area are demanding that the Andaman Nicobar Police must identify the place and depute their personnel on the area every Sunday so that no such illegal activities take place as according to Andaman Sheekha’s investigation many youths under the age of 18 also take part in these activities.
However, when Andaman Sheekha informed this matter to a senior officer in the Andaman Police, he said that whoever has information in this regard may approach the police unit of concerned jurisdiction and they are ready to support them with sufficient manpower to burst the racket.
