Port Blair, Dec 22: During the combing operation in the Reserved Forest at Hut Bay, the Beat Officer, Shri Sushant Roy and team apprehended two persons, who were in possession of a killed Andaman Wild Pig (Sus Scrofa Andamanensis). The offenders were immediately arrested and the carcass of the animal along with implement was seized and brought to the Range Office, Hut Bay for further course of action. The Andaman Wild pig is protected under schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and hunting of the animal is a punishable offence.
Meanwhile, the general public have been requested to pass on information regarding the illegal activities in forest including poaching and hunting of Wild Animals in the following phone numbers 03192- 284335, 9531905402 for taking strict action. The identity of the informers will be kept secret.
