Baratang, Dec 10: The Up-Adhyaksh of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad, Mr. R Alager Swami today expressed gratitude to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Secretary of Shipping Services for re-starting ferry services between Baratang and Port Blair, which was a constant demand of people of Middle Andaman.
The Up-Adhyaksh N&M ZP had taken up this matter continuously with the Lt. Governor and the Secretary Shipping Services and now under the direction of Lt. Governor and under the leadership of Secretary Shipping Services this service has been re-introduced, which will bring a huge relief for the people of North and Middle Andaman.
Mr. R Alager Swami has also expressed gratitude towards Andaman Sheekha for highlighting this issue regularly in media.
Meanwhile, some residents of Middle Andaman have now requested the Lt. Governor and Administration to change the return route of the Baratang ferry. They demanded that instead of via Swaraj Dweep the ferry must go directly to Port Blair, otherwise it will defeat the very purpose of the ferry.
The Baratang to Port Blair ferry is mostly popular in return journey as the people of Middle Andaman, especially old residents, pregnant ladies and children, can easily reach Port Blair by avoiding bumpy rides of ATR and if the ferry goes to Port Blair via Swaraj Dweep the journey will be unnecessarily long and uncomfortable.
“Instead the ferry can make a trip to Swaraj Dweep in afternoon hours from Baratang and come back to Baratang for direct return trip to Port Blair, as it was done earlier,” said a resident of Baratang.
