Port Blair, Nov 23: The Secretary (Education) Ms. Kriti Garg has exhorted the students to enhance their knowledge through book reading so as to be creative in all aspect. “We are moving towards development and our minds need to be creative”, she said while addressing the valedictory function of ‘”National Book Week -2019 in the State Library here this evening. Books are the best compassion and they constitute a very important component for acquiring information and processing them through creativity, she said and congratulated the winners of the various competitions organized during the week.
Secretary (Education) stated that she feel very proud that most of the prizes were won by the girls students which shows that the parents of these Islands are very much encouraging and promoting the girl child to compete them in all aspects of their life in order to build bright future. Secretary (Education) has personally feels very happy and much impressed by the way student presented their speeches on the importance of books and library.
Secretary (Education) congratulated the State Library officials for organizing an Exhibition of good collection of books also presenting a wonderful welcome song.
The Chief guest, Secretary (Education) and guest of honour Shri Kamlesh Kumar, DANICS, Director (Education) distributed prizes to the winners of the various competitions held during the week. Speaking on the occasion Shri Kamlesh Kumar, DANICS, Director (Education) informed the gathering that, National Book Week is being celebrated in all the schools and public libraries functioning under the Directorate of Education so that the school going students can utilize the library in a proper manner and to create a habit to read book during their leisure time as the books are the best companion, friend in student life.
Earlier, the Secretary (Education) inspected the books exhibition and enriched interest on the books displayed therein.
In his welcome address on the occasion, Incharge, State Library, Shri Abdul Naseem gave a brief account of the functioning of the schools and public libraries in these Islands and spoken the significance of celebration of National Book Week in State Library with the aim to inculcate reading habit among school students and general public.
The function was attended by a large gathering including Shri Sushen Mallick, Deputy Director Education(Plg)/Nodal Officer, State Library and Dr. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director Education (Acad/HoO), Directorate of Education, Principals, teachers, eminent persons, members of print & electronic media and students conclude with the vote of thanks, proposed by Shri George Toppo, Librarian State Library.
