Port Blair, Nov 04: On the occasion of World Anaesthesia Day, INHS Dhanvantari under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) organized a workshop on “Basic Life Support Technique” for service personnel at Dweepika Auditorium recently. Approximately 250 personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and DSC as well as Defense Civilians of various units of HQ ANC were given hands on demonstration and training for Compression Only Life Support (COLS) by Surgeon Commander Shamakanth Desai, HOD Anesthesia, INHS Dhanvantari.
The aim of the workshop was to “Make all Armed Forces Personnel as Life Savers”. The Chief Guest for the event was Major General Beji Mathews, Chief of Staff (COS), HQ ANC. The COS in his address emphasized on the need for learning as well as utilizing the skills of Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for all serving personnel. In addition, a series of training workshops were conducted at Kendriya Vidyalaya No II and Naval Children School to train students in Basic Life Support.
