Port Blair, Nov 03: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament has brought to the notice of the Chairperson of Port Blair Municipal Council regarding the hearse service offered by the council which were withdrawn unceremoniously. Mr. Sharma has stated that the mortuary van service for carrying dead bodies of the deceased person to Inter Islands viz. North & Middle Andaman were considered to be the blessing of deity by the people of remotest vicinity to complete the last rites & rituals of their family members but due to discontinuation & unavailability of the Hearse services have put their lives miserable in gloomy & pathetic situation, as they have to shed out more than Rs. 25,00 0/- for transporting dead bodies from Port Blair to Diglipur in a private charter.
Mr. Sharma has further stated that in today’s mobile society, it is not at all unusual for someone to die in one place where they have born, but the gospel truth is that they are being returned to their motherland for burial or cremation as a final resting place. Hence, seeing the helpless populace of North & Middle Andaman especially those living in interiors who are mostly poor & the downtrodden persons don’t have adequate capital funds to transport the deceased person body in private carrier & their only hope & trust lies with the PBMC Hearse service.
Therefore, Mr. Sharma has, in the larger civic importance and in the best interest of humanity, requested the Chairperson, PBMC to re-examine the decision taken by the council & facilitate the earlier system of providing Mortuary Van/Hearse service for carrying dead bodies of the family members residing in the North & Middle Andaman at an affordable rate.
