Port Blair, Aug 30: Continuous rain today caused minor land sliding at Prem Nagar area of South Andaman. Though the land-sliding did not cause any damage of property of loss of life, but resident living near the area, had a sleepless night.
“We can see a major portion of the land sliding down and if it rains entire night, entire land mass will fall on our house,” said a resident of the area.
Panic stricken residents dialed all possible helpline numbers but in return they received only lame excuses and assurances.
“The Disaster control room was of no help, senior officials of the Disaster Management told us that their work is to only coordinate and asked us to contact the Councillor of PBMC. We have been trying the Ward Councillor’s number since last two hours but we could not reach him,” said an angry resident of the area.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the State Disaster Control Room, official of the department told Andaman Sheekha that “Yes there was a report of Land-Sliding but when we inspected the site, we found that the land sliding is not major.”
According to the resident of the area, till later night nobody from Administration reached the spot to take any kind of precautionary step, in case of major land-sliding at night.
This minor incident shows how well-prepared the Administration to tackle any crisis situation.
