Port Blair, Aug 28: To enhance the capacity at grassroot level, the Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration has organized One day Training Workshop for Community Disaster Response Volunteer Force (CDRVF) of Gram Panchayats, Wimberlygunj, Shoalbay, Manarghat and Kanyapuram under Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) programme in the Auditorium of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Wimberlygunj today.
In the inaugural session, Ms. Maryam Bibi, former Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman stressed on community participation in the disaster preparedness to manage disasters as first responder. Disaster Management Kit is also to be prepared in the houses, which is to be helpful for surviving in disaster situation. The CDRVF volunteers and PRIs were requested to participate enthusiastically in making the programme a success, particularly in view of the fact that the Islands are vulnerable to various kinds of threats/disasters. Shri O. Bashir, Pradhan, Manarghat also spoke about the importance of the programme and urged all PRIs to extend assistance to Administration to meet the challenges of emergencies. Smt. Mary Pushpa, Pradhan, Shoalbay, Smt. P. Saraswati, Pradhan, Wimberlygunj and Smt. Jameela Bibi, Pradhan, Kanyapuram also attended the workshop.
During the technical session, Shri Rajendar Pal, Block Development Officer, Ferrargunj dwelt in detail about the preparation of Gram Panchayats Disaster Management Plan and about the constitution of CDRVF with their roles and responsibilities in different phases of time in case of disaster (Before, During and After).
Shri K. Rajesh, Fire Officer, A&N Police Fire Service along with his team explained and demonstrated various classes of fire and exhibited different types of fire extinguishers. He also made the participants aware of the precautions to be taken during fire operation.
Dr. Vazeem Iqbal, Consultant, Directorate of Disaster Management, through a power point presentation, explained the DigiLocker system of Govt. of India, wherein important documents of an individual can be secured by using its own login ID and these documents will be pulled out any time even after disasters.
Shri D.S. Kushwaha, Sub-Inspector, NDRF presented different techniques and procedure of rescue operation during emergency in disasters including MFR (Medical First Responders) and SAR (Search & Rescue).
Earlier welcoming the gathering, Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Logistics), Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration explained the vulnerability profile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and also explained importance of CDRVF at Village level to tackle disaster like situation in future at grass root level by the community at their own level and its role in making community safer. He also conveyed vote of thanks to all at the closing of the programme.
