Port Blair, Aug 23: Heavy rain continues to play havoc in Middle Andaman region. Today reports of minor and major land-sliding were pouring in from Kadamtala and Basantipur areas of Middle Andaman because of excessive rain.
Kadamtala region today experienced disruption in normal life because of non-stop rain. Zilla Parishad Members of Kadamtala, Mrs. Swapna Mondal informed Andaman Sheekha about the tragic situation of the region. According to her due to heavy rain six of residential buildings of Kadamtala are now facing danger of suffering heavy damage. The buildings are of Mr. Amal Ghatak, Mr. Anup Banerjee, Mr. Sudharsan Minj, Mrs. Alomati Barai, Mr. Mahadev Sikder, and Mr. Sunil Tirkey of Ward No. 6.
Meanwhile, as per details major land sliding was reported from Pareshnagar ward no 1 area of Basantipur Panchayat. Andaman Sheekha correspondent who visited the site reported that the land sliding has damaged a footpath and a house. Pradhan Mrs. Sabestia Lakra, Samiti Member Bhaskar Bagchi and SHO Billyground were present at the land sliding site. When intimated about this incident the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman informed Andaman Sheekha that he is coordinating with agencies to deal with the situation.
