Port Blair, Aug 23: Captain S.R. Ayyar, Commanding Officer of the Naval Air Station, INS Utkrosh inaugurated the Coastal Cleaning Drive organized by the Naval NCC unit today (23.08.2012) at 08.40 AM at the Carbyn’s Cove Beach.
Around 375 cadets from various Islands gathered braving rains to execute the beach cleanship. Capt. Ayyar who himself joined the cadets in the drive appreciated the efforts of the NCC unit. He encouraged the gathering and said that plastic free environment and clean beaches should become a way of life for the people of Andamans. He added that these efforts will promote tourism in our islands and will bring awareness and cleanliness around us. He further lauded the enthusiasm of young cadets who had come from various parts of A&N Islands. The garbage was collected in gunny bags and was disposed off at the dumping ground at Brookshabad. The Carbyn’s Cove Beach gave a clean ook by afternoon due to the cleaning drive.
The cadets also displayed various banners, boards and placards with slogans related to keeping our beaches and surrounding eco-friendly, clean, green and plastic free.
Later the cadets were served refreshments in appreciation of their efforts for the drive which was coordinated by Sub. Lt. ANO Dr. Satyam Setia of JNRM (Govt College) Port Blair. A communication from the Commanding Officer, John E Mathew said.
