Port Blair, Aug 09:Signifying the spirit of sports amongst the police personnel, the Police Training School, A & N Police organized Inter Unit League-cum-knockout G. Shaji Memorial Football tournament from 23rd July – 08th August, 2019.
Altogether six teams from various units & districts of A & N Police participated in the event. The tournament kicked off with a league match between Police Headquarters team & South Andaman District Team. The final match of this tournament was played on 08th August, 2019 at Police Training School between teams of Nicobar District & Police Headquarters. The Nicobar team lifted the Champions trophy of this tournament by winning the match with 1-0.
Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, A & N Islands, graced the closing ceremony of the tournament as Chief Guest & witnessed the final match. Shri Sanjay Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, was the Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest felicitated the players & handed over the runners up & winner trophy to the teams. He also gave prizes to the other well performing teams & players as well as to referees and event coordinators.
A huge gathering of police personnel and residents of police colonies witnessed the final match of the tournament & cheered up the participants. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of sports & fitness for the police personnel. He appreciated both the teams for making an excellent exhibit of infallible grit, consistency & team work.
The entire football tournament was coordinated by Shri. Michael Raj, DANIPS, Vice Principal, PTS, under the overall supervision of Principal, PTS.
