Port Blair, Aug 09: The Department of Home Science, the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of JNRM in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) Port Blair observed International Youth Day on 9th August 2019. In this connection an Elocution Competition was organised for the students of JNRM under the theme of “Be Educated about HIV” was conducted on 9th August 2019 in Seminar Room.
While giving away the prizes to the winners Dr.N.Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM spoke in detail about the important role of youths and students in making AIDS free society especially in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Being a brand ambassador the students should first become aware and help others in their peer group. He congratulated Home Science Department for organising such events and suggested to disseminate the information in the villages also during their visit.
Dr.Jahanara Yasmeen, Deputy Director (IEC), ANACS congratulated and participants and said that overall objective of the programme is to sensitize and create awareness among the general public. Shri Gireesh Kumar, Assistant Director (Mainstream), ANACS also graced the occassion. Dr.K.Venkatesan, HoD Home Science and Nodal Officer for RRC, JNRM spoke about the importance of youth and students in nation building by taking active participation in various programmes. The change is inevitable and be the change you want to see in others for societal transformation, he added.
Dr Rekha Kumari and Smt Nitika Garhia , Resource Persons of Home Science Department served as Jury Members and also spoke on the occassion. The Ist prize was won by Ms. Roshni Argan of Ist B.Sc Plant Science, IInd Prize by Ms.Priya Mondal of IIIrd B.Sc Home Science, IIIrd Prize by Ms.R.S.Reshma of B.Sc Home Science. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Zeenath Bibi of IInd B.Sc Home Science. A film on “PHIR MILENGE” was also screened in the Auditorium.
