Port Blair, Aug 01: The Directorate of Social Welfare had started to organize awareness programmes on drug abuse as per the calendar of activities finalized by the Department. Accordingly, about 900 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, No.II, Minnie Bay, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Lambaline, Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya, Carmel Senior Secondary School, GSSS School Line and GSSS Mohanpura were sensitized through the campaign.
Similar programmes were also organized in GSSS Lapathy, GSSS Malacca, GSSS Sawai, GSS Mus, GSS Kakana, GSS Tamaloo and GSS Arong of Nicobar Zone, wherein 695 students were sensitized about the drug abuse.
The resource persons from Police Department, Health Department, Social Welfare Department, NGOs and Principals including teachers of respective schools took part to make students understand different aspects of Drug Abuse. Later an open house discussion was also organized wherein students of the respective schools interacted with the resource persons and got their doubts cleared with useful tips to keep away from drug abuse.
Oath was also administered to be aware and keep away from drug abuse followed by a short movie on drug abuse.
