Port Blair, December 06: A major fire was reported onboard passenger vessel, MV Jolly Buoy, inside Junglighat dock area, this afternoon.
According to the reports during afternoon hours the major fire was seen onboard the ship. Initially the Fire Brigade unit of Fire Station Head quarter swung into action but the fire was out of control.
Altogether Seven fire tenders, one rescue tender, two water bowsers, two water tenders, One Tata van blower and One water mist, were press into action to douse the fire. After great efforts, it took nearly one and half hour for the Fire Service Personnel to bring the fire under control. As per reports short circuit in the engine room of MV Jolly Buoy caused Fire.
No one was injured in this accident however as there were thick smoke, fire fighters had to use breathing apparatus to control this major fire.
