Port Blair, July 15: 116th Birth day celebration of Bharatratna K Kamaraj was celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan today the 15th July, 2018. The PCC President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma garlanded the photo of Kumaraswami Kamaraj followed by floral tribute by all leaders and supporters of the Congress Party and the general public present in the function. Mr. Kuldeep, in his brief address, highlighted Kamaraj’s involvement in the Indian Independence Movement and his contributions towards the congress during his tenure as INC president for four years. In Tamil Nadu, his home state, Mr. Kamaraj is still remembered for bringing school education to millions of the rural poor by introducing free education and the free Midday Meal Scheme during his tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1954-1963. He was awarded with India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, Posthumously in 1976, Mr. Kuldeep said.
