Port Blair, Mar 23: The department of Historical Studies, JNRM observed Martyrdom Day at JNRM on 23rd March 2018 with patriotic zeal. The program was organized by the students of the Historical Studies to pay tribute and homage to great revolutionary martyrs Bhagat Singh , Rajguru and Sukhdev who laid down their lives in the service of motherland.
The day commemorated the hanging of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev by the British government on 23rd March 1931 at Lahore. The chief guest of the occasion was Mr. Harinarayan Arora and guest of honour was Mr. Sharda Ram, the prominent senior citizens of A and N Islands.
The inaugural address was delivered by Dr Kanwar Chanderdeep Singh, the head of department, Historical Studies stressing on the need to hold such programs. The keynote address was delivered by Dr N Francis Xavier, principal JNRM who hailed the sacrifices of the revolutionaries and underpinned the role of these Islands especially the Cellular Jail in the national struggle. The guests of the occasion lauded the efforts of the students, department and the college for keeping the light of patriotism and nationalism ignited among the youth.
The program began with paying of floral tribute to the martyrs and lighting of the traditional lamp followed by showcasing of documentary movie on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The chief guest and the guest of the honour distributed prizes to the winners of the inter-departmental quiz competition held a day before on 22nd March, 2018 on the theme of Indian freedom movement.
The program concluded with showcasing of a national award winning movie ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’. The program witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students of JNRM who by the way of lectures, documentaries, photos and films got a chance to glance into the lives of the martyrs who had sacrificed everything for the cause of motherland.
