Port Blair, Mar 08: Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff and Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee today said that over the years, MILAN has gained firm footing as an event that enables constructive dialogues between navies of the region.
Admiral Lanba said that the tenth edition of MILAN, is yet another example of the Navy’s efforts to nurture bonhomie with India’s maritime partners.
“MILAN was initiated in 1995 as a biennial gathering of navies of the Indian Ocean region with the objective promoting professional and social interactions between the participating navies,” he said.
The CNS said that the participation and scope of activities connected with MILAN have evolved in keeping with India’s growing engagement with its maritime neighbors.
“The first edition saw participating by our nations. For this edition we are proud to host ships and delegates from 16 countries. In addition to the informal and social engagements, this edition of MILAN has a strong operational focus,” Admiral Lanba added.
