Little Andaman, Jan 08: Believe it or not the newly constructed passenger hall at Hut Bay Jetty has become a symbol of total negligence and failed system government to check low quality construction works.
According to public of Little Andaman the roof of newly constructed passenger hall of Hut Bay Jetty has developed several leakages and because of which during rain, huge amount of water leaks inside the passenger hall, leaving public in total distress.
The passengers hardly get any space to keep their luggage inside the passenger hall during rain, as the entire passenger hall gets flood with rain water.
The matter of concern here is, the Passenger Hall of Hut Bay Jetty was constructed very nearly one year back by the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbor Works and such faults indicates major fault in design and construction of the Passenger Hall.
Andaman Sheekha also learnt through the reliable sources in the Port Management Board that the Passenger Hall of Hutbay Jetty has not been handed over to the Port Management Board, for reasons unknown.
Sadly as there is no other shed inside the Jetty area, commuters are forced to use the shed during bad weather.
Adding to the problem all the fans inside the passenger hall have got already damaged due to water leakage. Passengers also alleged that due to negligence the toilet block of the Passenger Hall has also become almost non-functional.
It has also been learnt that the road from the Hut Bay Jetty Gate to the Passenger hall is also in horrible shape.
Anyways the residents of Little Andaman are demanding immediate maintenance and repair of the Passenger Hall of the Hut Bay Jetty.
Although this matter has been highlighted by PRI members in all forums including Gram Sabha, no one from Administration or ALHW really bother to take any action.
“I demand that the passenger hall is immediately repaired so that the passengers can use the facility as and when required without any difficulty,” Mrs. Geeta Rao the Pradhan of Hut Bay Panchayat told Andaman Sheekha.
