Port Blair, Dec 22: A 12 year old girl was crushed by a Truck of Port Blair Municipal Council this morning at around 06:45 am at CIARI Road, Bhathubasthi. The minor girl succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
As per reports, the driver of the very old truck that used to carry garbage from various areas of city lost his control over the truck while coming down hill, near CIARI, following which the truck crushed the 12 year old girl namely Meena Kumari Lakra after hitting an Electric Pole.
The matter was immediately informed to the Police following which a team of Pahargaon Police Unit immediately reached the spot. Fuming over this incident, the villagers reportedly protested in the area questioning that how come the RTO gave fitness to such an old truck, which is not in a proper condition, to ply on road.
The villagers also demanded compensation from the PBMC department in this regard.
“This accident which caused a death is due to the utter negligence of the RTO Department. How could such a truck, which is decades old, is getting permission to ply,” Mr Sanjay Meshack, Convenor, Aam Aadmi Party questioned.
Later a team of PBMC reached the spot and assured the protestors that the department will release compensation to the family of the deceased following which the protest was called off.
