Port Blair, Dec 22: On 12.12.2017 a molestation case was registered in the UT Commission. The case was attended by the Member Smt. R Geetha Raj. On the same day evening the Chairperson contacted the victim over phone to come over the office for recording her statement, but she reportedly refused.
Addressing a press conference today Mrs. Kiran Tigga, The Chairperson of UTCPCR said that on 14th December, 2017 the victim was appearing in a examination in the school and for that she can’t come.
On 15.12.2017 when the Chairperson contacted with the victim regarding the matter the victim said that she is coming after 2 hours, but she did not come and further she said her uncle has not yet come and as such she is unable to come.
Thereafter the Chairperson decided to go to her house, but the victim’s mother did not permit. The Chairperson herself at own interest went to the Ganesh Temple at Haddo and made a phone call to the victim to find out the exact location of her house. Inspite of repeated attempts she did not respond the phone call and therefore the Chairperson came back from the spot.
Again on 16.12.2017(Saturday) morning over phone she informed her to attend the UT Commission office and accordingly she attended the office at 3.30 pm. According to the Chairperson of UTCPCR, the Victim was very much scared, but the Chairperson provided her proper counselling.
On 18.12.2017 the Chairperson summoned the accused Mr. Rajesh Kumar Pandey PGT (Chemistry) and recorded his statement vide letter No. 1-10/Case-12/UTCPCR/2017 dated 18.12.2017. Under clause1(a) of section 14 Act 2005. The teacher submitted his written statement to the Commission on 18.12.2017.
On 19.12.17 the Chairperson sought the Phone Number of other 5 other students from the Principal by a letter and accordingly called all 5 students related to the said matter for recording their statement. On 19th & 20.12.17 the victim attended the office along with 5 students and recorded their statements.
On 20.12.2017 final statement of the victim was recorded by the Chairperson.
Mrs. Kiran Tigga said that on 21.12.2017 the matter has been referred to the Director General of Police, with copy to Supdt. of Police and Dy.Supdt. of Police, South Andaman and SHO, Aberdeen Bazaar, for further investigation into the matter.
“On 22.12.2017 the statement of the victim has been recorded by the Police in presence of Chairperson and Member Smt. R Geetha Raj, A & N UTCPCR and a case has been registered under section 354 IPC r,w,s 8/11)i)/iv/12 of POCSO Act 2012,” she added.
