Port Blair, Nov 20: The Aberdeen Police Unit on Monday arrested one resident of Junglighat on Murder charges, for allegedly setting his wife on fire.
The arrest was made in this case following statement given by his wife before dying in burns ward at G B Pant Hospital.
As per the statement of the victim, her husband had set her on fire on 16th November, 2017 over a family dispute.
The accused has been identified at Mr. Anwar and the victim has been identified at Mrs. Radiya.
As per details, the victim had registered a complaint in the Aberdeen Police Unit on 14th November alleging that her husband is having an extra marital affair and requested action against her husband.
As per sources in the area, late night on 16th November there was a heated argument between the victim and her husband.
After hearing the lady screaming inside house when neighbours approached they found victim was on fire, following which she was immediately rushed to the GB Pant Hospital.
Till yesterday prior to her death the lady didn’t give any statement to the Police and was maintaining that she has immolated herself. As per report yesterday in her dying declaration she said that her husband was the main culprit and because of the fear of the husband that he will do something to her child, she kept her mouth shut. The deceased has a 6 year old child.
In this case, a case of attempt to suicide was earlier registered and now the case has been converted into a murder yesterday and the accused husband has been arrested by the Aberdeen Police Unit, in this regard. Further details are awaited.
