Port Blair, Oct 26: Today Self – employment is the need of the hour and it is essential that the spirit of entrepreneurship and the desire to be self-reliant is inculcated among the youths of the islands. The future has a lot of potential and it is the endeavor of this organization to create awareness so that the local youth seize the opportunity as they arise and generate further employment and help in the growth of the UT’s economy. To make things easier for the potential entrepreneurs the GOI, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has launched a credit linked subsidy scheme namely ‘Prime Ministers’ Employment Generation Prorgamme’. In this connection Awareness cum Motivation Programme organized by DIC in association with Tribal Council, Nancowrie, Department of AH & Veterinary Service, Agriculture & State Bank of India at Conference Hall of Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie on 25/10/2017 at 10.30 am, more than 40 unemployed youths and persons actively participated in the Programme.
The Programme began with a Welcome Address by Mr. K. Jai Kumar, Industries Promotion Officer (E.I) DIC. He also briefed about the PMEGP Scheme for setting up of self-employment. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Dr. Atish Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie encouraged the participants to come forward and avail the opportunities available under various developmental schemes of the Administration and PMEGP. He also insisted that the chances of success of traditional handicrafts entrepreneurs for setting up of self-employment. Sharing his experience with the participants he stated that partnership venture / group ventures are also having good success rates as seen in other states. Further he urged the potential entrepreneurs to obtain the assistance of Developmental Agencies who are playing a pivotal role in community development since their mode of functioning is more community based and flexible. Smti. Aysha Majid, Chairperson Tribal Council, Kamorta, Nancowrie motivated the tribal youths to avail the benefits under DIC through PMEGP and also assured to extend all cooperation in implementing the programme in more meaningful manner and ensure to support the banks in improving the repayment of loan.
Others who spoke from the line departments were Dr. Abinash, Department of AH & VS, Smti. Arti Singh, Agriculture Officer, Mr. Johny, Deputy Manager, SBI Kamorta. They elaborately sensitize about the various schemes of their departments.
All total 10 numbers of prospect entrepreneurs were selected from Teressa, Chowrah, Katchal and Kamorta for the financial assistance under PMEGP Scheme to undertake various activities as self-employment through the Sub-Task Force Committee under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry.
