Port Blair, Oct 12: To ensure total coastal security, Government of India, MHA has issued several guidelines, which as per details are not followed properly by A & N Police.
As per the documents available with Andaman Sheekha the Coastal Police stations should have an exclusive Marine Wing for keeping surveillance on sea through patrolling boats.
It shall have an Exclusive Intelligence Wing for collection of actionable intelligence, policing, crime control, crime investigation, monitoring and checking of vehicles.
As per the rules it is appropriate to have one or more Coastal Check Posts which may be established all along coastline.
As per the guidelines, the Coastal Police Station should be headed by an Inspector ranked officer, will be the SHO of the Police Station but in most Police Stations in Andaman like Kalighat, Diglipur, Mayabunder, Billyground, Rangat, Kadamtala, Baratang, Bambooflat, Neil, Hutbay, Nancowry, Katchal, Teresa & Chatham the Police stations are headed by Sub Inspectors.
However, many Inspectors ranked officers have been posted in places where they have to do official works.
The administrations should take proper steps to ensure that manning of proper officers as per MHA rules as the Islands are already vulnerable to intruders.
When tried to contact, a very senior officer of A & N Police, associated with Marine Police, refused to give any comment in this regard.
Hope that atleast the A & N Police will soon take some concrete steps to follow these guidelines to ensure that intruders do not enter our Islands.
