Port Blair, Sept 14: For many Islanders, days of Japanese Occupation, has come back again, when local residents were not having basic right to express their feelings. Today as many as 11 youths have been arrested by Andaman and Nicobar Police and they have been arrested under section 151 IPC and sent to Judicial Custody. This is perhaps first time in last 10-15 years when protesting public have been arrested by Police just to indirectly teach a lesson to all other protesting public and use this arrest as a deterrent for future protests.
Residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands feel that such action by Andaman and Nicobar Police to spoil the future of these 11 youths, is not acceptable and the Administration should have dealt this issue in a more matured manner. All these 11 youths have been sent to Judicial Custody for five days.
Surprisingly neither any support nor any concern shown by any political party in this issue, which is enough to show that how powerless our political leaders are and this also shows that in next Lok Sabha Elections, Zilla Parishad and Panchayat elections these leaders will probably find no supports.
Earlier there were many such angry protests and after such protests, protesting crowd have been taken to some lonely place and by evening all people were released with a warning. Those were the days when more sensitive Administration was functioning in these Islands.
Now youths of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have opted for a more refined way to protest. Dozens and Dozens of youths have not taken this fight to online level and have been continuously taking up this issue with PM and PM office. Many are also in contact with news channel and national newspaper. Everybody seems to have asking one question at present ‘Are the Kalapani days returning in Andaman’.
