Port Blair, Sep 15: ICAR-KVK, CIARI, N & M Andaman is organizing a three days training programme on “Scientific rearing practices in goat” for farmers and farmwomen at Community Hall, Dharampur, Shivpuram Gram Panchayat. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Pradhan, Shivpuram; Sarpanch, Gram PanchayatShivpuram; PRI-members; Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, N & M Andaman. In his inaugural address, Pradhan motivated the farmers to adopt scientific practices in Goat farming and thanked KVK for organizing the programme for the benefit of farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Head /Course Director, highlighted the importance and scope goat farming in the island of N & M Andaman. He also informed the farmers about the scientific intervention in goat farming that the KVK can provide to improve the production performance of goat. In the programme, Dr. ShardulVikramlal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course Coordinator delivered lecture on the identification, and handling of goat. He also discussed on the issues related to the problems faced by the farmers engaged in goat farming. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril. Engg.) briefly discussed on the housing system in goat. During the three days training programme farmers will be trained on different aspects of goat farming such as care and management of Kids, Buck and Doe, feed management, and disease management. This will help the farmers to improve the performance of goat and to reduce mortality and morbidity in goat. Apart from this a film show on scientific practices in goat farming and a heath camp for deworming in goats has been planned.A total of 27 farmers attended the programme. This programme is being conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kashinath, Senior scientist and Head, KVK and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI.
