
Port Blair, Aug 10: The South Andaman Teachers’ Branch of Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, A & N Islands organised a Mass Demonstration at 4.00 p.m. today in front of the Directorate of Education, Port Blair to protest against Unjust Transfers and Inordinate delay in settling various long-pending demands of Teachers and other non-teaching staff working under Education Department.
Demands raised during the programme were (i) Rectification in unjust transfers of Annual General Transfer-2017 (ii) Regularisation of Ad-hoc services of teachers from initial date of appointment (iii) Timely promotion of various categories of teachers (iv)Timely award of financial benefits like MACP (v) Payment of ISDA arrears from 2009 (vi) Posting of a regular Director for education department etc. Addressing the gathering leaders of teaching fraternity appealed immediate posting of subject teachers and Head Masters in dozens of schools which are running without subject teachers and Heads.
Mr. S.L.Vinjit, Secretary, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch expressed serious concern over the lukewarm attitude of the Department towards long-pending demands like Ad-hoc Regularisation and timely promotion. Mr. G.P.Mandal, Mr. HB Choudhary and Mr. D.N.Banerjee addressed the gathering of teachers.
Concluding the programme, Mr. T.S. Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Association demanded immediate rectifications in the Annual Transfer -2017 and about the need of humanitarian touch in transfers.
He also appealed the Administration to ensure minimum facilities to teachers and to settle their issues on a priority basis to avoid unrest among teachers. A good number of teachers from the schools of South Andaman area participated in the programme braving incessant rain.
