Port Blair, July 11: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray today said that GST will bring an economic reform in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He said that after GST those who were involved illegal business will not be able to survive.
Targeting Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) the Member of Parliament said that the ACCI has written letter to Finance Minister and urged not to implement GST for Andaman for next three year. “I have condemned this act very prominently in the meeting of ACCI. ACCI has no knowledge about GST. Only a few people for their own benefits are opposing GST.
Regarding Andaman he said since last 70 years, parallel economy was there in Andaman. “There was no Service Government Tax no cash memo. People used to evade taxes. According to a rough estimate, there used to be such business in Andaman worth 1 to 5 lakh crore. These people looted country. They did not pay tax but made their own property,” the MP said. But he did not give any specific detail about such businesses.
