Port Blair, Apr 02: The Pranab Kanya Sangha here is celebrating the 25th year annual festival of Sri Sri Basanti Durga Puja at its premises. In this connection, a religious function and exhibition of handicrafts, created by the children of the Sangha was organized this evening. The First Lady of the Islands, Smt. Prem Mukhi was the chief guest on the occasion. The First Lady, along with other dignitaries and members of the Sangha offered Pushpanjali to Goddess Durga, on the occasion of Maha Shasthi, the sixth day of the Basanti Durga Puja. This was followed by the inauguration of handicraft exhibition by the First Lady.
Smt. Rupa Ray, Secretary, Social Welfare, Smt. Rashmi Singh, Director, Social Welfare, Shri Jitendra Agarwal, ex Chairperson of SSWB and also the Asst. Secretary, Pranab Kanya Sangha, Smt. Ratna Kannan and others were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady lauded the members of Pranab Kanya Sangha for moulding the lives of needy girl children by providing them a conducive environment to grow. She appreciated the talents exhibited by the children in the form of creative art and crafts. She also extolled the contribution of the Principal of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Smt. Sangeeta Chand for her guidance to the students in showcasing their talents. The First Lady also highlighted the significance of Navratri festival, during which Goddess Durga is worshipped and revered for her strength and courage. She remarked that in order to excel in life, the blessings of God is very important. She also bestowed her blessings and good wishes to the members of Pranab Kanya Sangha and the children in all their endeavours.
The First Lady also released the silver jubilee issue souvenir of Pranab Kanya Sangha on the occasion. She also went round the exhibition and evinced keen interest in the products on display. She also presented goodies to the children of the Sangha. A painting by one of the children was presented to the First Lady as memento, on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary, Social Welfare, Smti Rashmi Singh congratulated the members of Pranab Kanya Sangha and the children for the wonderful display. She also lauded the talents of the children and urged them to keep giving their best.
In her address, Saanyasini Jananandamayee from Kolkata highlighted about various activities done by Pranab Kanya Sangha here in Port Blair. She expressed happiness in being part of the occasion and thanked Smti Rupa Ray for her support. She said, Pranab Kanya Sangha is a home for the needy girl children and it also focuses on their holistic development besides catering to their educational needs.
Smt. Ratna Kannna, ex- Chiarperson SSWB, while speaking, lauded the Sangha for being a torch bearer for the needy girl children and women. She also acknowledged the contribution of Social Welfare Department towards the needs of Pranab Kanya Sangha.
A video presentation, highlighting the life of Acharya Swami Pranabanandaji, Founder of Bharat Sevashram Sangha and the activities of Pranab Kalyan Sangha was screened on the occasion.
The children of Pranab Kanya Sangha presented beautiful cultural programme which received huge applause from the gathering.
Earlier, Saanyasani Somanandamayee welcomed the gathering while the programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Saanyasni Chaitnayanandamayee.
