
Mayabunder, Nov 10: The Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, along with the First Lady, Smti Prem Mukhi, visited Rangat and Mayabunder today, as part of his tour to North & Middle Andaman. The Member of Parliament, A & N Islands Shri Bishnu Pada Ray and the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar also accompanied the Lt Governor. The Lt Governor laid the foundation stone for the PMGSY road at Thoratang, Swadeshnagar in Rangat and inaugurated Girls’ and Boys’ hostels of Mahatma Gandhi Govt College, Mayabunder.
The Lt. Governor also held meetings with PRIs, Officials and general public at Rangat and Mayabunder. During these meetings, the Lt. Governor gave a patient hearing to the people and issued various directions to the officers and also shared his vision to develop the Islands. He stated that he observed many good things about the Islands such as literacy rate, the per capita income which are above than the National average while the social security arrangements are at par with the advanced countries because of the highest per capita expenditure made by the Central Government in the country. He said, he is committed to the development of the Islands and announced that Islands will be run on green power by December, 2018 as diesel is costly and generates pollution.
The Lt Governor directed that one solar power plant be installed in the campus of M.G.Govt.College, Mayabunder; the capacity of which will be analysed very shortly. He also announced that cardio related treatments will be available at Port Blair very soon as provision of the same has been kept in upcoming budget and the Administration will strive to ensure all super speciality branches at Port Blair in next three years.
The Lt Governor also spoke about the recent ban on tobacco and the ill-effects of alcohol. He also directed all officers to increase public interaction and to ensure speedy movement of files.
While addressing the students at M.G. Govt. College, Mayabunder, the Lt Governor shared his own experiences and advised the students to be determined and work hard to make the best use of their capabilities. He expressed satisfaction over the services being provided by various departments in the rural areas in N & M Andaman. He also lauded the efforts of the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray for his work and appreciated the Administration for its good work. He also emphasized that a lot more needs to be done for the development of the Islands.
