Aren’t local officers well capable of handling all departments ??
Port Blair, June 01: On 31st May 2012, a group of DANIC officers, headed by former Director of Andaman’s Tourism Department, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Ganger, met the Chief Minister of New Delhi and demanded her intervention against alleged ‘Arbitrary’ Transfers of DANIC officers. Some of these DANIC officials have been sent to Andamans from New Delhi.
This is an open secret now that the government still consider Andaman and Nicobar Islands as ‘Kalapani’. The only difference is that British Government used to send freedom fighters and hardcore criminals to Andamans while our own Indian government often sends those officers to Andamans, who could not gel properly with government’s work culture.
At present in Andaman Nicobar Islands there are 24 posts and there are already 35 officers and another 14 officers are being transferred. Currently, 46 percent officials are surplus in Andaman.
But the question here is whether Andaman really needs so many officers from Mainland? Aren’t local officers capable enough to head crucial departments and run the show by their own?
“Such posting not only create disbalance in local society but also causes a lot of inconvenience to these Mainland Officers. It’s like sending some government servant to Katchal on punishment transfer without any valid reason. The government must stop sending extra officers to these Islands as these officers take away the promotion chances of local officers, who are well capable of handing their own department,” said a prominent resident of these Islands, who does not want his name to be quoted.
Many believe that political leaders must firm stand and oppose this move of government to treat these Islands like ‘Kalapani’.
“Such posting is not benefiting anybody as local officers can understand local issue better and deal things in a much easier way than mainland officers, who need atleast one year to acclimatise with local system and lifestyle. Perhaps this is high time for Andaman to demand for creation of Andaman’s own Cadre,” he added.
