Port Blair, June 01:Lt General (Retd), Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, the Lt Governor, A&N Islands approved the transport and delivery of food grains under Targeted Public Distribution System at Daring, Changhua, Upper Katchal and Tapong village in Nancowry Group of Islands. The cost of transporting the food grains upto these villages shall be borne by the department from June 2012 onwards, the Director (CS&CA) said this in a communication today.
The problem of transportation of food grains to these inaccessible villages was highlighted by the Tribal Council leaders of Nancowry, stating high cost for transporting the food grains by the ration card holders of these villages before the Lt Governor during his visit to Nancowry on 27.04.2012. Lt Governor considered and approved delivery of the food grains at these villages.
