The Botanical Forum (www.botforum-jnrm.in), PG Department of Plant Science, JNRM organized a two days exhibition cum seminar on the topic “Attracting young minds towards research” on 27 & 28th Oct. 2016. The exhibition was concentrated on varied topics such as Microbiology, Genetics, medicinal plants & herbal remedies, diversity & evolution of plants etc. along with the display of some important biological instruments. Inaugurating the exhibition, Dr. N Francis Xavier, Principal JNRM lauded the efforts of the students and mentioned that exhibitions of these kinds will lead to greater appreciation and understanding of the subject matter. The exhibition was attended by students from different schools.
The chief guest of the seminar Dr. P. Vijayachari, Director, RMRC mentioned about the rich heritage of India and the importance of developing indigenous diagnostic tools for different infectious diseases.
Dr. PM Mohan, Professor in Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology, Pondicherry University Brookshabad Campus gave a detailed talk on ‘Research is an entrance to self achievement’ and highlighted that A & N Islands offers a great opportunity for research related work.
Earlier welcoming the guest Dr. S. Jayakumar, Associate Professor & HOD Plant Science gave a detailed account of the various activities conducted by The Botanical Forum in advancing the cause of Plant Science among the students. He mentioned that The Botanical Forum is continuously facilitating close interaction among the students and scientific community of the Islands. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Vivek Kumar Singh of M.Sc. IInd Year. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Miss Mahua Mistry of B.Sc. Ist Year.
