Port Blair, Oct 28: The Officiating Chairperson, A&N UTCPCR Smt. Kiran Tigga on her week long programme to North & Middle Andaman visited various schools, hospitals and various programmes and created awareness about the child rights.
On visit to the Primary School, Mohanpur and Primary School Sumathi, Sitanagar, it was found that the condition of the class rooms was very bad and there was shortage of class rooms also. It was also noticed that there was shortage of teachers and the school was running without the in-charge. The Furniture of the schools also required urgent repairs.
The Mid-day meals served to the students was not found satisfactory and it was felt that an enquiry may be conducted on the self help group preparing mid-day meals.
The Officiating Chairperson while visiting Model School, Sitanagar noticed that the Bus stand was in a dilapidated condition due to which the students get drenched in the rainy seasons, lack of playground and proper fencing at the school campus is required to be taken by the Director of Education.
Smt. Kiran Tigga on her visit to Diglipur hospital was informed by the villagers about the scarcity of Doctor’s in the hospital and frequent deaths due to Andaman fever. The long pending demand of Ultra Sound machine and posting of Gynecologist in Diglipur hospital was brought to the notice of Smt. Kiran Tigga.
On 24th October 2016 Smt. Kiran Tigga, Officiating Chairperson along with Smt. Prabhawati, Ex- Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad and Smt. Laxmi, Member, Social Welfare Board visited Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Bakultala and found the functioning of the institution as satisfactory. They also visited Rangat hospital on the same day and found the scarcity of Doctor’s and the need of Ultra Sound machine.
On 24th October 2016, functions were held at Community Hall, Rangat and Anganwadi Center, Panchwati, Rangat which was organized by State Committee in collaboration with Social Welfare Board and UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights under the caption “Beti Bachaoo Beti Padaoo”. Smt. Kiran Tigga, Offi. Chairperson highlighted the issues related to Child Rights, Sabla Scheme, Dulari Scheme, RTE Act, POCSO Act etc.
On 26th October 2016 the Beti Bachaoo Beti Padaoo function was held at Community Hall, Radha Govind Temple and Smt. Tigga highlighted the issues especially on Child Rights, with particular reference to sexual abuse and child marriage, suicides of women and child, RTE Act etc. The function was attended by a large gathering.
