Port Blair, Oct 26: The Territorial Army Battalion of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, the ”Island Terriers” was awarded the coveted “Southern Command Territorial Army Group Banner” at Southern Command Headquarters, Pune. The Championship Banner was contested by all Territorial Army battalions located in Southern India. Colonel Kulbir Singh, Commanding Officer of the “Nishan Toli” battalion received the coveted Banner.
The battalion under aegis of “The Amphibian Brigade” and Headquarters Andaman & Nicobar Command has been serving the nation and the people of Andaman & Nicobar Island since 2005. The Island Terriers were the first boots on ground to provide relief to the calamity stricken population after the Tsunami struck the Islands. Since then the unit has left its footprints from Landfall Island in the North till Indira point in the South. The battalion is unique among other Territorial Army units because of its “Sons of Soil” profile due to which it comprises primarily of the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Colonel Kulbir Singh, Commanding Officer of the unit dedicated this achievement to the motivated, diligent and selfless officers and men of the “Island Terriers”.
