Port Blair, Sept 18: Department of Environment and Forests observed International Coastal Cleanup Day on September- 16th at Wandoor by involving school students from government Middle school, Secondary school Wandoor & Mangultan.
The PCCF (Wildlife) cum Chief Wildlife Warden Shri M.S. Negi, Chief Guest on the occasion while interacting with students had enlightened them about uniqueness and fragility of this islands and need for conserving it, also highlighted human interaction and its impact on the coastal environment and marine diversity, further emphasized the need for involving students in preserving the pristine nature of the islands by motivating and restraining oneself from using sea as dump yard and to spread the message across society.
Dr. K. Ravichandran, CF (Wildlife) explained the students about importance of observing coastal cleanup day, impact of costal debris on marine animals and image of islands and steps to reduce usage of water bodies as dumping site.
While Shri Rambala, Pradhan, Wandoor Gram Panchayat appealed the student communities to take a lead role in spreading awareness campaign for keeping our costal area clean and tidy.
The Dakshin foundation and ANET allies of department in observing this event engaged the students in education games for understating and appreciating the complexity of the problem and finding solution in their own way.
