Keralapuram, Sept. 10: While most of the people think only awareness and use of modern technology can minimize road accident a group of people at North Andaman yesterday night organised a ‘Puja’ at Cherian Nallah, Keralapuram to ward off evil spirits and prevent road accidents.
There has been an alarming increase in the number of road accidents at ATR’s Cherian nallah to Keralapuram stretch.
Giving into the belief by many villagers that evil spirits are causing the accidents at Cherian Nallah Bridge the villagers yesterday night performed a ‘Puja’ to ward off the spirits from Cherian Nallah, Keralapuram, area.
The Pradhan Keralapuram asked the PS Diglipur to deploy some police jawans to look after the traffic at Bridge during the puja, which was done by the Police department.
Many believe that deploying police jawans on regular basis at the Junction will be more helpful to reduce number of accidents than deploying police Jawans only during Puja.
Experts think that most of the accidents are due to drunken driving and over-speeding of vehicles on the strait road from Helipad to Cherian Bridge and Panchayat Building to Cherian Bridge.
While conducting ‘Puja’ won’t harm anyone but the Police Department must think of using some technologies at the Cherian Nallah area, to minimize road accidents.
Recently Geetanjai and STS bus met with an accident at the area.
