Port Blair, Aug 8: The Indian Coast Guard Ship Vishwast recently conducted the first ever Community Interaction Programme at remotely located Bompoka in the Nancowry group of islands which is inhabited by only eight families drawing sustenance from land and water around. The islanders gathered at location near the village and were briefed on the “Safety and Security” aspects related to fishing at sea. The importance on carriage of basic safety equipment and actions in case of emergency at sea were emphasized. The importance of the Islanders as the “Eyes & Ears” for safe guarding and security of their Island was realised and participation solicited. The Islander displayed over whelming enthusiasm during the event and requested for frequent visits/interaction by the Coast Guard. On culmination of the community interaction programme, daily use items and rations were distributed amongst the families.
