Port Blair, Aug 5: The Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell is located in the heart of the city and functioning in CID building. The objective of CAW Cell is to assist women is distress by providing legal help and counseling.
The CAW Cell provides counseling, mediation and enquiry services to those women/children who are the victim of Domestic Violence, matrimonial disputes, eve teasing, molestation or sexual assault (offences U/s 304 (B), 305, 306, 354, 376, 498(A), 509 IPC). It also provides them legal assistance, wherever needed, by case registration, investigation and prosecution of Criminal cases or by providing assistance during maintenance proceedings for or under the relevant provisions of Domestic Violence Act 2005 etc. Apart from this, the CAW Cell also assists all such women in realizing their rights and entitlements under various welfare and empowerment schemes of the Government of India by actively liasoning with the Department of Social Welfare and NGOs.
To provide better service and curb down this menace against women, the Crime Against Women Cell, Port Blair has launched a Toll Free Number 1144 to improve the services being offered to women in distress free of cost. The land line users have been requested to can avail the service and dial 4 digit toll free helpline No. 1144 and the mobile users can avail the service and dial 10 digit toll free helpline No. 18003451144. Further, the general public are also requested to pass any information regarding the activities of crime against women, if any, on the above said toll free number.
