Port Blair, July 24: A group of Auto Rickshaw Unions in the city will be conducting a mass agitation tomorrow with the support of Private Bus Unions and Travel Unions.
“No Private Bus as well as travel vehicles including the Auto Rickshaws in the city will ply on the road tomorrow,” claimed Mr Santosh Kumar A, General Secretary, RJATU today.
The members of some Auto Rickshaw Unions in the city have earlier threatened the Andaman Nicobar Administration of ‘Chakka Jaam’ agitation from 25th July if the demands they have kept in front of the District Commissioner, South Andaman on 19th July are not fulfilled.
As per reports, demands of various Auto Rickshaw Union of the city are to provide relief to them from challans that is being imposed by the State Transport Authority, for road side parking. They also demanded the DC, South Andaman to notify an Auto Stand for them in the city. Further to take action against the Jeep Operators who are violating their permit rules as that is hitting auto drivers hard.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone, the General Secretary, RJATU, Mr Santosh Kumar A, said that the agitation will start from 09:00am and then a mass rally will head towards STS Office from Ghantaghar, Post Office, Bengali Club to STS Office.
“The agitation will continue till late evening and even if our demands are not resolved, than we will further decide our next step against the administration,” Mr Santosh added.
Meanwhile talking to Andaman Sheekha the Dy.S.P of Traffic Mr. Umar today claimed that all Auto Rickshaw Unions will not be participating in the agitation. He added that only few of the busses are supporting this agitation.
We have already instructed the agitating party to conduct the agitation in a peaceful manner and if they forcefully try to organise ‘chakka jam’ they will be booked for violating law and order.
Police Staffs as well as traffic staffs will be deployed in the duty since morning 06:00 clock and if required the police team will also divert some roads.
