Port Blair, Apr 28: The Jan Kranti Party of these Islands has submitted a charter of demands to the Lt Governor on Tuesday raising some crucial issues of these Islands viz providing regular shipping services to the southern group of Islands especially Nancowry and Campbell Bay and allowing government servants to buy flight tickets from any agency.
In the charter of demands, a copy of which has been issued to local press, the General Secretary of Jan Kranti Party, Mr. Prakash Minj mentioned that the connectivity between Port Blair to Nancowry & Campbell Bay has been severely compromised recently.
“Earlier ships like MV Chowra, MV Sentinel, MV Kalighat, MV Campbell Bay & a chattered vessel MF Samsun were providing its services between the Islands. Large group of people including students, teachers, government servants, and patients from these Islands have to travel to Port Blair and they are suffering a great deal because of insufficient shipping services,” Mr. Minj added.
He requested the Administration to look into the matter and provide more charter vessels for services in these Islands.
Raising the second issue he said that as per a new rule air tickets should be purchased from the airlines counter and some particular agencies.
He mentioned that for this, government servants are facing lot of problems as some times the tickets are not available at the counters and the government servants of distant Islands also find it tricky to buy tickets from airlines counters.
