Port Blair, April 17: To encourage participation of youth in sports activities and assist in building team spirit, promote the spirit of sportsmanship, competitive spirit and cooperation among the participants, the Sudhangshubala Memorial cup Volley Ball tournament organized by Sudhangshubala Foundation, Kolkata was flagged off on April 1 at Garacharma Mini Stadium. The matches as per schedule were played between 40 teams from different parts of these islands.
The quarter final match as per the fixture, which was drawn on April 15 in the presence of all teams’ captains/managers by lottery will be played on April 17 between Southy Eros and Nancowry and between Andaman Police and Diglipur. On April 18, Swaraj Youth Club will take on Rangat and Trisha Bros will face Hut Bay at Garacharma Mini Stadium
On April 19, winners vs winners of quarter final match between two groups will be played while on 20th April 2016 looser of Ist semi final vs looser of 2nd semifinal will be played for third position. The finals of the tournament will be held on April 23.
A cash award of Rs 1 lakh will be given to the winning team while Rs 50,000/- and Rs 25,000/- will be awarded to the first and second runners-up respectively. Mementos will be awarded to Man of the Match, Man of the Tournament, Referees, Coaches and all participating groups after the finals at Garacharma Mini stadium
