Port Blair, Mar 21: ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman organized a five days training programme on “Vegetable and plantation based cropping system” for farmers of N&M Andaman from 21st to 28th March, 2016 at Harinagar Panchayat Hall. The training was inaugurated by Miss Prabahabati Biswas, Adyaksha, Zilla Parishad N & M Andaman in presence of Shri Uttam Mondal, Pradhan Harinagar, Shri Hirenmoy Roy, Ex- Pradhan, Shri Kishor Kumar, Up-pradhan, Shri Ramkrishna Sarkar, Up Sarpanch of Harinagar Panchayat, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, N & M Andaman and others. In her inaugural address Miss Prabahabati Biswas, emphasized on need of scientific knowledge and skills in cultivating vegetables by farmers in a profitable way. She requested the famers to receive maximum benefits of schemes formulated for farmers by the government under dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime minister. Shri Uttam Mondal reiterated for supply of inputs to farmers from local administration along with technical support of KVK for making the training to be more effective and fruitful. On the occasion Shri Hirenmoy Roy emphasized on unavailability of water during dry season to be a major obstacle in development of vegetable growers and requested for scientific interventions to tackle the problems. Shri Kishor Kumar requested the farmers to gain maximum benefit from the training and demonstration of KVK further he emphasized farmers to receive maximum benefits of government schemes. Dr. B. L. Kasinath briefed the content of five days training programme and had detailed discussion on KVK activities and importance of vegetable and plantation based cropping system.
In the technical sessions lecture and demonstrations on scientific cultivation of tomato was dealt by Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Er. Manoj Kumar and Shri Tanmay Paul. Visuals were screened during the session by Shri B. L. Meena and Shri Prasanta Pradhan. The training was organised under the supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head and under the guidance of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
In the beginning Dr. Shailesh Kumar welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries and the participants and Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal proposed the vote of thanks.
